What keeps puppy mills and back yard breeders in operation?

I can look on kijiji almost any day of the week and pick out a back yard breeder.

When you shop for a pup to add to your family, you will see a wide range of prices from crazy cheap to fairly expensive. Crazy cheap is a backyard breeder or puppy mill who is not investing back into their program.

Backyard breeders and puppy mills do not put the health of their dogs first, money is first. They also don't plan for emergencies nor do they have the funding set aside to cover them. I've paid for 3 emergency c-sections in 2 years at cost of over $10,000. Letting my girls or their pups die without trying is not an option for me. I'd rather pay for an unnecessary vet visit and know everything is good.

Raising puppies in barns, on floors coated in feces is not giving them the best start at life. Sadly, often when you you see pups going for very cheap prices, they are also the ones ending in shelters. This is why pups are being abandoned and end up in shelters. When you pay a discount prices for a dog, you are keeping these people in business so they will keep doing what they are doing. I am proud to say that not one of my pups has had their family relinquish ownership. I even have a clause in my contract that if something does happen, that they need to let me know and I will work with them to find a proper home for their dog.

If you can't afford to pay for a pup from a reputable breeder, I would suggest to wait until finances are better. With the cost of pup also comes unexpected costs, they are alot like kids that way.
